At the age of 25, Gianni Versace was creating prêt-à-porter collections for top fashion houses of the time, including Genny, Complice and Callaghan. In 1978, with the help of his brother, Santo, he founded the Gianni Versace company. Later that year, the first Gianni Versace collection for women was shown in Milan. Gianni Versace became famous for designing flashy, sexy, beautifully cut outfits in strikingly extreme colours, patterns, fabrics, and leathers. His fashion empire prospered in men's, women's and children's clothing, accessories, jewellery, perfume, and housewares. Several lines shape up Versace Group today. They are: Gianni Versace Couture, Versus, Versace Jeans Couture, Versace Ceramic Designs, Versace Collection (which replaced Versace Classic in 2005) and Versace Sport. Gianni Versace Couture, with its high-end, sometimes even handmade apparel, jewellery, watches, fragrances, cosmetics and home furnishings, is the House's main line.
